A different approach

More than detailing. Complete vehicle protection.

Surface Works is a specialist vehicle protection company providing XPEL paint protection film, accredited Gtechniq ceramic coatings, paint correction and premium detailing from dedicated studios in Nottingham and Boston, Lincolnshire.

We do not force every vehicle into the same package. The right solution depends on the condition of the paint, how the vehicle is used, where it is driven, how long it will be owned and which surfaces are exposed to the greatest risk. For one customer, that may mean front-end PPF to protect against stone chips. For another, it may be full-vehicle XPEL coverage, a long-term ceramic coating or a carefully structured maintenance programme.

Every vehicle is treated as an individual project. Daily commuters, family SUVs, electric vehicles, performance cars, classics and supercars all receive the same careful preparation, controlled installation process and quality inspection. Our recommendations are based on practical protection and long-term value rather than simply selecting the most expensive option.

Who will be working on your car?

A small team, working personally on every vehicle.

Surface Works is a small team by design. We don't overload the diary just to fit more cars in. We focus on the vehicles we have with us, and the work is handled personally by our team from preparation through to final checks. We'll also be the people discussing your car with you, recommending the right treatment, taking delivery of the vehicle and returning it to you when the work is complete.

The Surface Works process

Considered from inspection to handover.

A protection product can only perform as well as the assessment, preparation and installation beneath it.

01 / CONSULT

Vehicle inspection

We discuss the vehicle, condition, mileage, ownership period and the areas most exposed to impact or contamination.

02 / PREPARE

Safe preparation

The vehicle is washed, chemically decontaminated and assessed under controlled lighting before any corrective work begins.

03 / CORRECT

Paint refinement

Where required, machine polishing improves gloss and reduces defects before they are sealed beneath film or ceramic protection.

04 / PROTECT

Certified installation

XPEL patterns and Gtechniq systems are installed using appropriate processes, products and curing requirements.

05 / SUPPORT

Handover and aftercare

We inspect the finished vehicle, explain maintenance, register applicable warranties and provide ongoing support.

Why XPEL

Physical protection where the road hits hardest.

XPEL paint protection film creates a transparent or satin sacrificial layer over vulnerable painted panels. Unlike a ceramic coating, PPF can absorb minor impacts from stone chips, road debris, insects and everyday contact.

01

High-impact coverage

Protect the bumper, bonnet, wings, mirrors and headlights, or extend coverage across the entire vehicle.

02

Self-healing topcoat

Light swirls and fine surface marks can reduce when the film is warmed by sunlight, warm water or controlled heat.

03

Precision-cut patterns

Vehicle-specific patterns reduce unnecessary cutting on the car and support consistent coverage and alignment.

04

Long-term warranty

Relevant XPEL films can carry manufacturer warranty protection of up to 10 years, subject to product and care terms.

Why Gtechniq

Long-term gloss, resistance and easier maintenance.

Gtechniq ceramic coatings form a durable protective layer that improves water behaviour, chemical resistance and ease of cleaning. They do not prevent stone chips, but they make an excellent standalone treatment or complement to PPF.

01

Crystal Serum Ultra

Our accredited flagship ceramic option for customers seeking maximum long-term coating durability and warranty protection.

02

Crystal Serum Light + EXO

A popular professional system combining durable base protection with enhanced slickness and hydrophobic performance.

03

Complete surface care

Dedicated products can protect wheels, glass, leather, fabrics, dashboards, carpets and convertible roofs.

04

Annual support

Applicable coating packages can include annual checks to help maintain performance and identify contamination early.

Why customers choose Surface Works

A complete protection service, not just a product application.

01 / OUR TEAM

No outsourced installation

Preparation and protection work stays with the Surface Works team. PPF and ceramic coatings are never handed to someone without the relevant XPEL certification or Gtechniq accreditation.

02 / PREPARATION

Condition-led paint preparation

We inspect the paint and recommend only the correction necessary rather than automatically adding unnecessary polishing stages.

03 / WATER

Ultra-pure Spotless Water

Our wash process uses ultra-pure water to reduce mineral deposits and support a cleaner, spot-free final rinse.

04 / INSURED

Professional vehicle custody

Customer vehicles are handled through an insured professional operation, with collection arrangements available where agreed.

05 / SUPPORT

Aftercare beyond handover

We provide clear maintenance advice, warranty information and ongoing support for film, coatings and protected vehicles.

06 / ADVICE

Proportionate recommendations

The best package is selected around use, condition, value and ownership plans—not simply the highest available price.

Frequently asked questions

Useful answers before you protect a vehicle.

These are some of the questions customers ask before booking PPF, ceramic coating, correction or detailing. The full FAQ contains more detailed information about products, payments, deposits and aftercare.

View all FAQs
What is the difference between PPF and ceramic coating?

PPF is a physical film designed to absorb minor impacts and protect against stone chips, road debris and light surface damage. Ceramic coating is much thinner and focuses on gloss, chemical resistance, water behaviour and easier maintenance. Many customers combine both.

How much does paint protection film cost?

The price depends on the vehicle size, panel complexity, coverage and film finish. Front-end protection is considerably less than full-vehicle coverage, while XPEL Stealth requires additional installation work. Use the Package Builder for an indicative figure.

Does ceramic coating prevent stone chips?

No. Ceramic coating cannot absorb physical impact in the way PPF can. Customers primarily concerned about stone chips should consider XPEL PPF on the highest-impact panels.

Does a new vehicle need paint correction?

Sometimes. New vehicles can arrive with bonded contamination, transport marks, adhesive residue, sanding defects or dealership wash marring. We inspect the finish and recommend only the preparation genuinely required.

How long will you need the vehicle?

Turnaround depends on the service and condition. A detail may take part of a day, while multi-stage correction, ceramic coating or full-vehicle PPF may require several days. An estimated completion time is confirmed at booking.

Can you collect and return my vehicle?

Yes, subject to availability. Insured collection and return can be arranged from an agreed address for an additional fee based on distance, vehicle type and scheduling.

Do you require a deposit for PPF?

PPF bookings may require a deposit because workshop time is reserved and vehicle-specific patterns and film may be prepared before arrival. Once film has been cut for a particular vehicle, it may not be reusable for another booking.

Do you offer payment plans?

Eligible customers may be able to use available payment-plan options for qualifying services. Approval, limits, terms and any credit checks are controlled by the finance provider. Ask us for the current options.

Can PPF be removed from a vehicle?

Yes, but removal risk depends on paint condition, previous repairs, refinishing quality and the age of the film. The vehicle should be assessed before removal, particularly where panels have been repainted.

Can matte paint or satin PPF be protected?

Yes. Compatible satin film and matte-safe coating products can protect these finishes without intentionally adding gloss. Matte paint cannot be corrected in the same way as conventional gloss paint, so careful assessment is essential.

Can electric vehicles be protected?

Yes. Tesla, Porsche, BMW, Audi, Kia and other electric vehicles can receive PPF, ceramic coatings, wheel protection, glass treatment, interior protection and detailing just like combustion-engine vehicles.

Will PPF be completely invisible?

High-quality gloss PPF is designed for optical clarity, but it remains a physical film. Edges, joins, pattern boundaries or minor installation characteristics can sometimes be visible on close inspection, particularly on complex panels.
